Puerto Progreso is the favorite beach of the Yucatecos because of its proximity to the city, it is only 30 minutes from Mérida.
One of the most representative icons of the Port of Progress is its famous pier of arches which is preserved in perfect condition and has no problems of corrosion, recently built a path that connects “The Fisherman’s Wharf” with the also famous seawall of Progreso.
The Malecon of Progreso extends for a little more than a kilometer in length and this is where most of the people in this beautiful port are concentrated.
The boardwalk is the epicenter of all social activity in Progreso, whether you stop at one of the bars for a beer or order a seafood dish in one of its restaurants.
The beach is wide and has all the services of a resort. Just hold your hand and a friendly waiter will be there to assist you. Also, remember that it is one of the safest places in the country so you should not worry about leaving your children playing near by.
Very close to Progreso is the Laguna Rosada where it is possible to observe flamingo colonies that live peacefully in its waters, here is an excellent opportunity for colourful photos.
El Corchito is an ecological reserve 10 minutes from the port, ideal for observing its mangroves and swimming in its open cenotes at sea level. An interesting fact is that the rivers through which the boats tour are dyed brown due to contact with the mangrove. A show that you can not miss!
